I wish Amelia were here so she could show the Hibou how entirely unjust this situation is, though I have my reservations on thinking whether she would really go out without clothes.

Lina, I shall have to put further meetings on hold until further notice, as this situation is far too embarassing in my situation.

It is fortunate that my skin is not as sensitive to the cold as most people, but it is almost as if it's mocking me as it currently has the same colour as my skin.

...Having met the Hibou, I wouldn't put this past them.

It seems the unfortunate genderswitch curse is over... now I can worry about the other parts. (No, Xelloss, you may not worry about them, let alone touch them again.)

Has anyone in this place heard of a legend of some sort, that tells about an old book, or any sort of magic? Alternatively, has anyone heard of old buildings in this place, perhaps ruins that may carry some sort of treasure?

Lina, have you looked for the owls in this place at all, so that we may leave this place swiftly? I am growing weary of this place already.

...What is this device? I think this is how it is supposed to work. Hopefully I will manage to reach Lina or the others with this... as much as it pains me to admit that I may need help getting out of this place.

…I have no idea where I have found myself now, but seeing as my quest for a cure were not going anywhere lately, I suppose it makes no difference either way. I can only hope this isn’t something Lina started by the use of a spell… or another being. Whoever brought me here without permission will be punished! And I can only hope for them that these ears are temporary! And these... other parts... Like I wasn’t freaky-looking enough…

[another long silence, and definite cursing and growling now]

...Ergh… This place is giving me a headache. These colours are entirely obnoxious, and they’re changing by the blink of an eye. I suppose I should look at the bright side and assume this means that there is a source of powerful magic nearby… Which means there could be a possible cure somewhere. Or at least something that will change me back without a tail and... other parts.

Lina, Gourry, Amelia... if any of you is hearing this, please tell me you are at least experiencing some similar curse. I'd hate to be the odd one out.

Feel free to prod me in a reply if you want to do stuff to him. XD Mocking him is always allowed, however... Zelgadis is the butt of everyone's jokes, so people taking him seriously would cause his world to collapse! ...Or something IDK. XD

APPLICATION

History

Zelgadis Greywords was a happy young boy, whose sole purpose in life was to become stronger. In a brief nightmare scene in season one of the series, his great grandfather, the famous Priest Rezo, gave him this strength… by turning him into a Chimera, which is a mix of races. With this, Zelgadis gained a lot of strength, but it cost him his human appearance.

Vowing his revenge on his own great grandfather, Zelgadis goes in search of a cure, and finds a myth about a Philosopher Stone, which is said to grant wishes. However, Rezo is also after this, for he wishes to summon a dark lord.

Later on, we find out that this great lord, named Shabranigdo (who is fearsome for pronouncing it alone o_0), was actually residing in Rezo’s eyes, which made him go slightly loopy and it was that evil that made him turn Zelgadis into a chimera, not Rezo himself. The Philosopher Stone was lost in summoning Shabranigdo, however, so no more possible cure for Zelgadis! After Shabranigdo was defeated by Lina, Zelgadis left the group to find a new solution to his problem, but he keeps bumping into Lina and co, to be mocked and ridiculed again, and by chance save the world from destruction as well.

Personality

Zelgadis was created to mock every stereotypically brooding, silent hero alive, focused on getting the job done as quickly and effortlessly as possible. With that in mind, and keeping in mind that Slayers is, above all, a humor series, you can easily see why he would be the butt of many a joke.

This holds especially true in the first season, where Zelgadis’ cool, distanced personality is occasionally replaced with some emo teenager who wonders if people are afraid of what he looks like. In later seasons, this erratic behavior pattern decreases slightly, as the group is constantly in saving-the-world business and Zelgadis doesn’t really have the time to stop and worry about whether his appearance is frightening. This also may be because he is finally learning that certain people will accept him despite the curse, and despite his personal issues with his… colourful group of friends (he would grudgingly admit), he does trust them and would sacrifice his life for them.

Comic relief aside, driven is the word to describe Zelgadis. Before he was cursed and transformed into a Chimera, which changed him from a normal human boy to a mixture of golem, human and Brau demon, his sole purpose in life was to become stronger. However, because he feels that Rezo had no right to change his body in such a way without telling him what he was doing, he feels that he must undo it, even though the body does give him more strength, magically as well as physically. He will do anything to even get close to a place that holds the possibility of a cure, even if it is described by a silly folk tale or an ancient rhyme.

Though he is distant, don’t mistake it for aloofness and pride! He distances himself from humans because most humans he sees mistrust him on sight, and even the ones that he hangs out with betray him something awful at times (Oh hay Zel, you look like you’re the same weight of an anchor! Who needs air, right? :D), or are just unaware of his own quest and focus on food (and then he ditches them. XD). However, he isn’t an emotionless drone, quite the opposite. He will often show exasperation at people’s antics, and get angry when things don’t go his way. When meeting new people though, he is all business, wants nothing to do with them and doesn’t trust them at all. He prefers to settle things peacefully in situations (as long as they don’t concern him and his cure in any way), and is often the token person to calm Lina down.

As the outrage at Rezo’s unwanted ‘help’ already showed, Zelgadis is really quite prideful, and he had rather wanted to obtain strength by his own hands than receive it from the hands of someone else. When everyone else will happily crossdress or put on animal costumes, Zelgadis will absolutely refuse, and will only be persuaded when it is absolutely certain that it is their last resort, and even then will have to be happily nudged by Lina or Amelia.

He has a great deal of wisdom which he takes for granted and sometimes flashes it in front of his companions with a knowingly superior smirk, and can come across as really quite cocky. And not without good reason, because let’s be honest, his teammates aren’t the brightest lights around, and he has a LOT of skills. He can sculpt, pick locks (don’t ask!), play guitar (morosely so on a ghost ship o_o), and is good with both magic and sword. He is able to locate their position by the stance of the sun, and he knows that without him, Lina and co. would be utterly lost and starving in a matter of days.

So, tl;dr, he’s cocky about his abilities, but a total douche about his personal thoughts, which go cloaked under polite words of serious friggin business. Yes, he totally makes sense.
